House Approves Funding for Municipal Police Training

Today, Representative Sánchez voted in support of legislation that would create a dedicated funding stream for the Municipal Police Training Fund. Established in the recent criminal justice law, the bill imposes a $2 surcharge on car rentals in the Commonwealth. The money, up to $10 million, will allow the municipal police training committee to hire more staff and offer more trainings to better equip our local police with the tools they need to keep our communities safe.

This works hand-in-hand with our criminal justice law, which requires the Municipal Police Training Committee to create in-service training relative to implicit bias, mental health emergencies, and de-escalation.

Our legislation will play an important role in communities across the Commonwealth. It will help here in Boston as Boston Police continue to work with neighborhoods to improve community policing efforts

The bill was one of many debated in the House today. Stay tuned for more coverage on the Extreme Risk Protective Order bill, as well as the BRAVE Act, which supports our veterans.
