The Medicaid Managed Care Organization (MCO) Working Group, convened in June by Speaker of the House, Robert A. DeLeo (D-Winthrop), and chaired by State Representative Jeffrey Sánchez (D-Boston), House Chair of the Joint Committee on Health Care Financing, will release their report today, Wednesday, October 21.
The 13 member Working Group was charged with reviewing the delivery of Medicaid benefits by the MCOs, including cost-drivers and potential savings. Topics of discussion included the cost of rare disease treatment medications, barriers to increasing the adoption of alternative payment methods, and the future of MCOs in the Commonwealth given current health care redesign efforts.
The recommendations highlight the need for longer MassHealth enrollment periods to promote stability, the importance of transparency in the MassHealth rate setting process, data sharing amongst the MCOs, MassHealth, and providers, and further discussion of price variation and risk adjustment.
