Jamaica Plain, MA—Massachusetts State Representative Jeffrey Sánchez, (D-Boston), the Bromley-Heath Tenant Organization, and local nonprofits have announced the return of the “Family Night” cookouts.
“This is the third annual Family Night series that we have hosted in Bromley-Heath. This event brings out over 200 residents each night and is important to building a sense of community among residents,” Representative Sánchez stated.
In addition to the traditional barbecue, the cookouts also feature representation from local social service providers who are on hand to share information on the various resources available to residents at Bromley-Heath. “We like to have the non-profits engage the residents at these events to show the resources that are in the community,” Sánchez stated.
The Bromley-Heath Partners, a group of about 40 non-profits, will also be contributing to these events. Smart from the Start is one of the lead partners making this event a reality. “I have been told by families who attend the cookouts that they are a nice way to relax and unwind after a long day,” says Carol Miranda, a program coordinator for Smart from the Start in Jamaica Plain.
“Family Nights bring families out to enjoy a meal and it's a great opportunity to meet others and have a good conversation,” said Yamilet Torres, a member of the Bromley-Health Tenant Organization.
Family Nights will take place on Tuesdays, 4 pm to 6 pm, beginning June 30, and continuing through August 25. Activities will take place outside the management office at 30 Bickford Street, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130.
