BOSTON – State Representative Jeffrey Sánchez (D-Boston) was recently promoted by Speaker of the House Robert A. DeLeo to Chairman of the House Committee on Public Health.
The promotion places Sánchez in a pivotal position in terms of state legislation, as he will be shepherding important bills through the House of Representatives. In addition to his current two staff members, Representative Sánchez will now oversee Public Health Committee researchers.
The issue of public health is familiar territory for Sánchez, who served on the original Commission to End Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities, and currently serves on the Health Disparities Council. In addition, he has championed the issue of chronic disease management in the House, focusing specifically on asthma-related legislation.
“I am humbled and honored to be given this responsibility,” said Sánchez. “I am committed to working as hard as I can to make this committee effective and to promote public health throughout the Commonwealth.”
