BOSTON—State Representative Jeffrey Sánchez ( D- Jamaica Plain) will host an art reception for Mr. Tony Diaz, a 28 year old Roslindale resident and artist. The reception will held in Room 130 at the Massachusetts State House on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 from 4PM-7PM. Mr. Diaz’s art exhibit is entitled “Timeless Dedication” and will showcase a plethora of artistic genres such as abstract painting, mixed medium, digital art, and graffiti.

Mr. Diaz is self taught and specializes in mural art, spray can art, and illustration. Art has been of significant importance to him from an early age and his fascination with art started with his fondness for comic books. As a young child, Mr. Diaz would often spend time creating his own comic books. From there, his interest with art grew and he developed his artistic niche in mural art and a spray can art while in high school. Today, he continually explores different artistic forms including digital photography and abstract painting.

Diaz’s artwork has been exhibited throughout the Boston community. In early 2000, he joined Mayor Menino’s Boston Youth Clean-up Corps (BYCC) Mural Crew and has painted several murals in the various Boston neighborhoods and locations including a mural that still stands in Roslindale Village. Recently, Mr. Diaz was commissioned to paint the store floor for Got Sole 1981, a new skateboard and urban apparel boutique, in Jamaica Plain.

Diaz says of his work, “I am constantly trying to improve my techniques. I learn to get better at my craft by trial and error. My artwork ranges from colorful and vivid abstract works to very gritty street art styled canvases that I believe possess great beauty yet reminds people that things are not as nice and pretty until you look deeper. I am so excited to showcase this art collection to the public. There is something for everyone to relate to!”

This event is free and open to the public.

Sánchez and District E-13 Plan Fishing Trips for Area Youth

BOSTON– State Representative Jeffrey Sánchez and District E-13 Community Service Office formed a collaborative partnership to implement four fishing trips to Jamaica Pond throughout the month of August 2011 for local area youth. Youth from South Street/ Forest Hills, Egleston Square, and some parts of Dorchester and Roxbury were recruited to participate in these fishing trips which occurred on August 3rd, August 10th, August 16th and August 23rd.

“I would like thank Officers Rafael Rodriguez, Antonette Ramsay, and Williams Jones for working with me to make these four fishing trips happen for our youth. Positive interactions between law enforcement officers and the youth are always a great sight to see,” states State Representative Jeffrey Sánchez.

District E-13 Youth Officer Rafael Rodriguez shares the same positive sentiments regarding this collaborative partnership, “It was a great to participate on the various fishing trip with the youth. The collaboration between District E- 13 and State Representative Jeffrey Sánchez made it possible to for us to work together for a common cause. An essential of component of community policing is having the patience to work things through with others. As with fishing, you have to be patience or else you may not catch any fish.”
